I am now putting together an exhibition titled, “From the Hudson to the Nile: Dows Dunham, archaeologist” for the Albany Institute of History and Art which will run from November 8, 2025, to March 29, 2026. It will celebrate the extraordinary contributions to the archaeology of ancient Africa by Hudson Valley born Egyptologist, Dows Dunham. Excavating in both Egypt and Sudan, Dunham participated in some of the most extraordinary discoveries in archaeology, including the “Secret tomb” of Queen Hetepheres, mother of the builder of the Great Pyramid, The statue of Djoser, the builder of the first pyramid, and the treasures of the Kings and Queens of ancient Nubia.
The exhibition will trace his amazing career, showcasing some of his incredible discoveries and giving us a glimpse of the excitement of archaeology in the Indiana Jones era.
